Ann Ludemann Taylor is not your conventional artist. Ms. Taylor is a
practitioner of batik, an Indonesian art form that uses silk, cotton, and dyes in
order to create patterns. Ann uses batik to create hand-painted scarves, sarongs,
and other articles of clothing.
She also does accessories by request! If you haven't
heard of batik, you're not alone - Ms. Taylor is one of the very few batik artists in
South Carolina. Ann marries both the traditional and the whimsy in her work as
she also uses the gorgeous canvas of coastal South Carolina to enhance the
process.
Recently, Ms. Taylor has also completed abstract works in batik. Ann's
work is not only one-of-a-kind, however. An award-winning artist, Ms. Taylor
has won two first place prizes in the "Just Art" and the Winyah Arts Guild juried
shows in Georgetown, South Carolina. Ann has also won an honorable mention
at the Waccamaw Arts & Crafts Guild juried show in Myrtle Beach, South
Carolina.
Ms. Taylor is a graduate of the University of South Carolina at Coastal
(now Coastal Carolina University), where she studied art and sociology. Her
works are currently shown at:
Art & Soul Gallery in
Myrtle Beach, South Carolina
The Prevost Gallery at the Rice Museum in
Georgetown, South Carolina
Brookgreen Gardens in Murrells Inlet, South
Carolina
